Project Ghost

What if we could remove the camera from photography. What if we could scan someone, and use their likeness in any which way we wanted. We could do editorials with this scan, we could put the subject in any environment we wanted to, frame the lighting exactly how we want it. That is exactly what this project accomplished.

Using Video game software, I was able to import 3D models and capture surreal yet photo-realistic images of the scanned subject in environments of my own creation.

Blue cave. More or less close to the final variation of what it will end up being. Happy with the contrast of the warm orange and the cold blue, working well to create interesting highlights on the subject. World lighting has been placed to create a cold ambiance, whole spot lighting has been moved a short distance behind the subject in three different places to back light the subject, but to also highlight details in the stone walls adding depth. This creates an ominous and powerful image of the subject.

This image is still in progress. I like the back lit window had been framed to look like a James Turrell piece. You can see there has been experimentation with lighting and camera angles. I prefer the dark, harshly back light frames where detail can be seen on the floor, but the reflections on the subject are seemingly too bright, to the point where detail is lost. This brightness does function as great contrast from the dark surroundings and draws the viewers gaze.

This City scene still feels quite dry and uninteresting. Depth and detail need to be added. You can see where lighting has been applied to try and add contrasting light to the scene. Perhaps building the scene deeper and with more objects in the foreground, with some particle effects may help.

This is my favorite scene second to the blue one. remaining still dark and ominous with plenty of depth thanks to the layering of mountains and trees, in tandem with fog effects. I plan to re-frame the image, or at least lessen the empty whit space above the subjects head.
